Ortho Biologics & Stem Cell Treatments
Dr. Kennedy and his team have been at the forefront of biologic augmentation for over 35 years. Dr. Kennedy wrote his senior MCH thesis on biologic augments to bone healing, including bone morphogenic protein (BMP), bone sialoprotein (BSP), osteopontin (OPN) and other endochondral induction agents. This was work Dr. Kennedy was investigating with Professor Mel Glimcher in Harvard's prestigious Enders lab back in the 1990s. Since that time, Dr. Kennedy has been at the spear-tip of investigating biologic augments for use in all orthopedic conditions. This work has both been in the laboratory at Cornell, Hospital for Special Surgery and NYU as well as clinical evaluation. Dr. Kennedy's primary concern is that biologic augments should be used only when required and only when there is sufficient basic science and clinical data to support their use. Dr. Kennedy is on the board of directors of Regenerative Medicine Systems New York (RMSNY). This is a think tank of basic scientists and clinical physicians who have established a large data base of basic science data so that conditions and systems can be evaluated in a scientific manner providing oversight for the proper use of these materials. Dr. Kennedy serves as a medical consultant on many industry advisory boards again to provide both academic input and clinical oversight in biologic products.
